The Pleasant Valley Fire Fighters Association, in coordination with the Pleasant Valley Fire Department, is offering a Fire Fighter I & II Class beginning in July of 2012. This program trains the student in fire fighting tactics and skills, the handling of hazardous materials, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Upon completion of the program, the course will satisfy the requirements of and prepare the student to take the Missouri Division of Fire Safety Fire Fighter I & II tests. Course curriculum will be taught under the NFPA 1001-2002 standards. Students will be provided all necessary books including the IFSTA Essentials of Fire Fighting, 4th Edition.

What is the age requirement?
You must be 18 years of age. However, it is strongly encouraged for you to go ahead with your college career until you are close to the age of 21. Most departments are not accepting applications until you are 21.
Do I have to have a doctor's physical before I turn in my application?
Yes, we can only accept completed applications.
Will financial aid cover this program?
No, but we do offer a payment plan. An initial deposit is required to secure a seat in the class. We do offer a discount for those who pay the cost of the class in full the first night of class.

Do you have job placement and what is the hiring rate?
No. We do announce when area departments have job openings. While you are in Fire Fighter I & II you are taught how to write resumes, do interviews and oral boards etc for fire department employment.
Where do we pay our fees?
Payments can be made at the Pleasant Valley Fire Department. Checks can be made out to the Pleasant Valley Fire Fighters Association.
Can I work while attending the Fire Fighter I & II?
Yes but due to the intensity of training we do recommend you work it out with your job so you do not miss classes.
Is there homework and tests?
Yes, there is homework almost every day and quizzes 2-3 times a week.
What certifications do you offer?
We offer Fire Fighter I and II, Hazardous Materials Operations and Awareness, CPR, and Basic First Aid.
What is the deadline for returning the application?
Classes fill up 3-4 months in advance, so the sooner the better.
Do I have to complete the degree plan to become a Fire Fighter?
No, but it is a good idea. Obtaining a job as a fire fighter is a competitive process. So the more education you have the more employable you are. It will also make it easier for advancement once you are a fire fighter.
What type of Physical Training is involved in Fire Fighter I & II?
We do have a regular physical training as part of the class. Participation is required.
What are the hours for the Fire Fighter I & II class?
Classes meet Monday & Wednesday from 6pm to 10pm and every other Saturday from 8am to 5pm for about five months.
Is there a background check required for entrance into the Fire Fighter I & II program?
There is a background check required that needs to be completed prior to admission into the Fire Fighter I & II program.
